FOUR CORNERS, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a traffic stop turned into a chase that eventually resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer Sunday afternoon.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Clifford Johnson Jr., 34, of Four Corners, was booked on several charges of possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs.
According to reports, deputies patrolling the Four Corners area saw two vehicles stopped in the middle of the road and one of them sped off, reaching speeds twice the posted limit.
Deputies said when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver pulled into a driveway, jumped out and ran off. They added they saw him drop a bag. Johnson was later caught and handcuffed.
According to SMPSO, deputies found a bag of illegal drugs where they said the suspect was seen dropping a bag. They reported finding the following inside:
Marijuana (26 baggies)
Cocaine (3 bags)
Crack cocaine (4 "cookies")
MDMA pills (3)
Detectives said they also found brass knuckles and nearly $1,500 in cash on Johnson. They added he was caught within 2,000 feet of a church.
Johnson was booked on the following charges:
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
Possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine
Possession with intent to distribute Xanax
Possession with intent to distribute MDMA (ecstasy)
Violation of a controlled dangerous substance law in a drug free zone
Transactions involving proceeds from illegal drug sales
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Resisting an officer
Obstruction of justice
Illegal carrying of weapons (brass knuckles)
Obstructing public passages
General speed law
Officials said Johnson was later released after posting $30,000 bond.
