GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying two people accused of stealing credit cards from a teacher’s purse at a school and using them to buy gift cards.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reported it happened February 2 during school hours. Deputies did not release the name of the school where it happened.

Major Kevin Hanna with APSO said a woman went into an empty classroom and took the credit cards from the teacher’s purse.

Detectives said they later learned the stolen credit cards were used by a man at Winn-Dixie in Prairieville. They added he bought gift cards at the store.

According to detectives, the same man later tried to use the stolen credit cards to buy gift cards from Walgreens in Gonzales, but the transaction was declined.

Investigators said the pair was seen leaving the school in a light colored, possibly silver, SUV.

Anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
