Pedestrian killed in single-vehicle crash in Ascension Parish

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A Prairieville man is dead after being hit by a car in Ascension Parish Monday afternoon.

Louisiana State Police said 34-year-old Brad Nickens was walking across LA 934 (Black Bayou Ext.) in Gonzales when he was hit by a vehicle. The accident happened before 4 p.m. Monday.

Troopers said the driver, 20-year-old Christopher Bourque, of Gonzales, was traveling eastbound on LA 934 past LA 44 (N. Burnside Ave) in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma when, for unknown reasons, Nicken walked into the path of the vehicle and was hit.

According to troopers, Nickens was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced.

Troopers do not suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample was taken from both Nickens and Bourque for analysis. in the LSP Crime Lab.
