HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Detectives with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested an 18-year-old from Hammond in connection to a shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Mardi Gras, Feb. 9, 2016.
Jervarion Smith turned himself in and was charged with aggravated second degree battery. The shooting happened after an argument over a dice game, according to deputies.
Officials say another 18-year-old was checked into North Oaks Medical with injuries around 4:30 a.m. He was shot twice in the leg.
The victim told detectives that several people were playing dice outside an apartment on Rufus Bankston Road when an argument started between two people. One person pulled out a black semi-automatic gun and fired several shots hitting the victim twice, according to the victim.
The investigation is ongoing.
