Troopers: Motorcyclist dies in high speed crash

SLIDELL, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a motorcyclist going too fast and passing a vehicle illegally was killed in a crash Thursday evening.

Louisiana State Police reported the crash claimed the life of David Loder Jr., 54, of Slidell.

Troopers said it happened on LA 433 (Bayou Liberty Road) near Kimberly Lane in Slidell around 5:30 p.m.

Tpr. Dustin Dwight with LSP said investigators determined Loder was riding a 1996 Honda Shadow on LA 433 at a "high rate of speed" and went on the shoulder to pass a vehicle.

He added as the motorcycle passed the other vehicle, it went in a ditch and hit a culvert.

According to investigators, Loder was throw from the motorcycle and despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, suffered severe injuries.

Dwight said Loder was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Per protocol with all deadly crash on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
