A graduation for a school drug abuse prevention program had an added zing Wednesday.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux told the students at Park Ridge Magnet School in Baker how proud he was of them and that each have the chance to be a leader. The sheriff stressed to the students the importance of their decisions and doing the right thing.
The students also learned that the Baker Police Chief Mike Knapps was the first to bring DARE to the school when he was an East Baton Rouge deputy.
Since Chief Knapps plans to retire after this year, Wednesday was also a celebration of his dedication and commitment to helping kids avoid illegal drugs and alcohol.
