BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Three members of the WAFB 9NEWS team have received prestigious Emmy awards for their work in journalism.  

Cheryl Mercedes and Rick Portier won Emmy awards for their investigative reporting into deplorable living conditions at a Baton Rouge housing complex. 

Greg Meriwether received an Emmy in the category of "On-Camera Talent" for his work on the series "Hand It On."  The series profiles people in need and those who are working to improve the community. 

The awards were presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The statuettes arrived at WAFB Wednesday afternoon.  

WAFB News Director Robb Hays said the awards are "among the most prestigious awards a journalist can receive and I could not be more proud of these great members of our team."
