Deputies: Man believed to be drunk breaks into house to eat food

BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man who had been drinking broke into a house and ate food while the homeowners were there.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Mark Buteaux, 48, of Patterson, was arrested early Tuesday morning.

Deputies said they were called to a home in Bayou Vista because of a suspicious person and learned on the way there that the homeowners had detained the suspect.

According to investigators, Buteaux broke into a utility room and ate two cans of food. Reports stated the homeowners heard a noise, found Buteaux, locked him in the room and called 911.

Deputies said Buteaux had a strong smell of alcohol. They added he refused to give his name when they tried to book him.

SMPSO also reported finding an active warrant for his arrest for violating his probation.

Buteaux is charged with burglary of an inhabited dwelling, disturbing the peace (intoxication), misrepresentation during booking and warrant for probation violation.

No bond was set.
