NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) -

Without question, the biggest Mardi Gras party of the day was in New Orleans.

Bourbon Street in the Big Easy was packed as the fun started early Tuesday morning and lasted well into the evening.

Fat Tuesday in the Crescent City kicked off with Zulu. This year's parade theme was "100 years of incorporation" and featured 10 new floats.

Everybody along the route hoped to catch one of Zulu's coveted throws, hand-painted coconuts.

After Zulu was the Krewe of Rex. Dating back to 1872, Rex is one of the oldest participating Mardi Gras krewes.

In fact, Rex's royal colors of purple, green and gold have become the traditional Carnival colors for the rest of the state.

Rex also introduced doubloons as parade throws.
