With the open of the football season just under seven months away, ESPN released its Preseason Football Power Index and LSU is the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
ESPN calls the index "an automated ranking intended to measure team strength going forward. It is not a ranking of who will have the highest win total (which is dependent on schedule) or who is most likely to make the College Football Playoff."
Florida State is ranked No. 2 followed by Oklahoma (No. 3), Clemson (No. 4), Tennessee (No. 5) and Alabama (No. 6).
SEC teams Ole Miss (No. 7), Georgia (No. 9), Texas A&M (No. 14), Auburn (No. 21), Miss. State (No. 22) and Florida (No. 23) are all in the FPI top 25.
