DEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A Deville family is trying to pick up the pieces after a deadly fire took the life of a 6-year-old girl and destroyed their home. Extended family members have created a GoFundMe account to help with burial, medical and living expenses.

The fire started just before midnight on Wednesday. A neighbor called 911.

The fire engulfed the manufactured home.

Firefighters found the body of 6-year-old Jocelyn Victoria Ruiz in the living room of the house.

With assistance from neighbors, Patricia Ruiz, 35, was able to rescue Jocelyn Ruiz’s older siblings, 8 and 12-year-old sisters, Jada and Jasmine, from the fire. Patricia Ruiz, the mother of the children, was later taken to an area hospital where she received treatment for cuts to her arms and foot. Patricia will have to have surgery after a 1-inch  piece of glass was lodged into her arm while rescuing her daughters.

Jasmine, 12, received 2nd degree burns to her body and was taken to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. Jada, 8, was not injured.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Jocelyn.

While investigators have made no official determination as to the cause of this deadly fire, evidence points to an electric space heater located in the living room as the cause of the fire, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators believe the heater was being used at the time of the fire and was near a couch, newspapers, and other paper products.

The home, which was significantly damaged by the fire, had no working smoke alarms, according to the State Fire Marshals' Office.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe account for the family to help with burial, medial and living expenses.

The family is also accepting donations of clothing, shoes, toiletries, etc. These donations can be brought to 30 Elmus Paul Rd. in Deville, LA. Directions to the drop off location can be found on the GoFundMe page.

If donating clothing and shoes, the sizes needed are:

1-5 juniors girls pants
14-16 girls shirts/hoodies
10-12 girls clothing
4, 8.5 women's shoe sizes

The family is in the process of making funeral arrangements for Jocelyn. Details are not yet known.
