BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A suspect is in custody after a standoff with police overnight.

The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to a call just after 11 p.m. about a male suffering from multiple injuries in the 2300 block of Perkins Road.

When officers arrived they found a male with injuries including a severed lip and a possible fracture to over his right eye.

According to police, the victim told police that he had been beaten by two men with bats at a residence in the 2200 block of Elissalde Street over ten dollars he owed one of the suspects.

The victim also told police that he had been staying at the residence with one of the suspects, 55-year-old Ivan Fitzgerald.

When police arrived at the residence to speak to Fitzgerald, he kicked the door closed and barricaded himself inside.

Fitzgerald was eventually arrested and taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail where he has been booked with aggravated second degree battery and resisting an officer.
