GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Police are trying to identify two men who tried to cash fake checks and they hope someone in the public can help them.
The Gonzales Police Department reported the incident happened at the Walmart in Gonzales on Jan. 23, 2016.
Investigators said the men were trying to get two checks cashed, one for $699.95 and the other for $697.95.
Officers said the cashier got suspicious and contacted the manager, but the two men left. They were last seen driving off in a black two-door Nissan Altima.
According to detectives, the men left behind driver's licenses with the checks. However, they added those licenses were fake and the names on them don't match those of real people.
Authorities also said the names on the fake licenses matched the names on the checks.
Anyone with information about the suspects is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
