Southern Lab continued the celebration Wednesday that started in the Superdome with an LHSAA Football Championship, as seven football players off the Kittens' team signed scholarships for college, among 10 student athletes at the National Signing Day ceremony on campus.
An eighth football star, Warrick Dunn Award finalist Curtlan Williams, accepted an offer from LSU's Cam Cameron to become a preferred walk-on as a slot receiver for the Tigers, with the expectation the MVP of the title game and All-State kick returner can earn a scholarship when he gets on campus.
Offensive stars Bladrick Veal at quarterback and Darbbeon Profit Jr. at running back will be staying on Southern's campus, signing with Dawson Odums' Jaguars. Veal expects to redshirt his first year, but will be joining Roman Banks' basketball team while he does. Profit said the Kittens' offense mirrors SU's.
Other Kittens who signed college scholarships on Wednesday included Deion Rainey, who will join the Tulane Green Wave and its new coaching staff, Chadwick Smith, Jr. who's headed to SWAC rival Mississippi Valley State, and Tenoa Alex Jr., who landed at another SWAC school Jackson State, after transferring to Southern Lab from Redemptorist when it closed.
Tevis Abraham, Jr. is headed to New Mexico State and Louis Tre' James III will play at Belhaven College in Mississippi. Taylor Coleman, who has played for BRSC, signed a soccer scholarship to attend Missouri Valley College, while Kittens' volleyball player Payten Clark inked scholarship papers to enroll at Tennessee State in Nashville.
