BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A joint House and Senate Transportation Committee got public input on repairing local roads Wednesday.
There are dozens of ideas on the table, but the experts agree it will take money and hard work.
They said for every $1 billion invested in transportation, Louisiana gets nearly 31,000 new jobs in construction and manufacturing.
Officials say the bottom line is that future growth depends on better roads.
"The number one consideration is a good transportation system," said Ken Perret, president of the Louisiana Good Roads and Transportation Association. "More important than tax breaks or anything else, you have to have a good transportation system, or you're not even in the ballpark for expanding or attracting new industry."
Wednesday's meeting discussed projects that are part of the state highway priority program.
