The Investigators: HUD looking into public housing tenants

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is taking action against people who make too much money while living in public housing.

In December 2015, the Investigators uncovered several tenants making thousands of dollars more than the limit to qualify, while thousands of low-income families are on a waiting list.

For example, one tenant in Berwick, which is in St. Mary Parish, took in more than $80,000 over the income limit.

Now, HUD, the federal agency that oversees public housing, is calling for public comment on the issue as they consider a new rule to limit affordable housing to those who truly need it.
