SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police were busy this past weekend working the Krewe of Centaur Parade.

Over 200 officers patrolled the streets along the parade route in efforts of keeping everyone safe.

Thousands turned out for the event, and authorities say a total of 31 people were arrested for a variety of misdemeanor offenses including driving while intoxicated, disturbing the peace by fighting, public drunkenness, illegal use of fireworks interference with a police investigation and battery on a police officer.

Jackie Whaley says a bottle rocket left her 16-year-old son with first and second-degree burns during Saturday's parade.

"He was really on fire," said Whaley. "It hit and it exploded, that is when the damage was done."

In addition to those cases, authorities are working to identify and apprehend the person responsible for firing a gun near the parade route.

Police say it happened around 8:00 p.m. near the 1200 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, near Weyman St.

When officers arrived, patrolmen scoured the area but were unable to find the person responsible or a crime scene.

However, on Monday, officials with the Krewe of Centaur reportedly told police that one of their floats sustained damage that appeared to be consistent with that caused by a bullet.

Investigators examined the float and reportedly recovered potential evidence.

No one on the float was hurt.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 or on their website www.lockemup.org. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
