ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that killed a Paincourtville woman Saturday afternoon.
State Police say they crash happened just before 5 p.m. on LA 308, just north of Napoleonville.
A preliminary investigation revealed that 58-year-old Cheryl Hebert was driving a 2005 Toyota 4Runner south on LA 308. At the same time, a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 25-year-old Katie Landry was traveling north on LA 308. For unknown reasons, the Tahoe crossed the center line and struck the Toyota.
Hebert who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash was pronounced dead at the scene. Landry who was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries.
Two other passengers who were in the vehicle with Hebert were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
It is unknown at this time if impairment played a part in the crash. Toxicology results are pending for Landry.
The crash remains under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
