BRPD release name of victim in deadly Fairchild Street shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon.

BRPD officials say one man is dead after an apparent shooting on the 1500 block of Fairchild Street.  The shooting occurred sometime after 4’clock. 

Authorities say that the victim was 23-year-old Ryan Armwood. Investigators say that Armwood was standing in the 1500 block of Fairchild Street when an unknown suspect ran up to him and opened fire. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

This is an ongoing story, more information will be added as it is made available.

There have been four homicides in East Baton Rouge Parish so far this year. Of those, three were classified as murders and one was a negligent homicide. No arrests have been made in any of the murder investigations. All are considered open at this time. 

Homicides are down by half when compared with 2015 statistics. There were a total of 8 homicides in January 2015, with two classified as non-murders.
