NEW IBERIA, LA (WAFB) - State police say a New Iberia man died after a two-vehicle fatal crash on a service road of US 90 near Curtis Lane in New Iberia.
Investigators say 37-year-old Roland Joseph was driving a Ford F-150 westbound on the south service road of US 90 shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday. For reasons still under investigation, Joseph ran off the right side of the road and over corrected. Joseph's vehicle began to rotate, crossed into the eastbound lane, and was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 52-year-old Durius Barras of New Iberia.
Investigators say Joseph, who was not wearing his seat belt at the time, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Barras was wearing a seat belt and was transported to an area hospital suffering severe injuries.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers. Those results are pending.
Louisiana State Police urges everyone to buckle up when driving, as it is the most effective way to reduce injuries in crash situations.
