BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge woman says she stabbed a man in self-defense during an argument Wednesday night.
Baton Rouge Police say Betty Canada, 49, was charged with attempted second degree murder after an argument with another person turned violent.
According to a BRPD probable cause report, Canada told police that the argument broke out at the victim's house on Cannon Street, with both parties eventually walking to the suspect's house in the 3900 block of Harriet Street.
Once at the Harriet Street residence, Canada says the victim struck her with an open hand. Fearing for her life, Canada told police that she reached for a weapon from the victim's pocket. Police say Canada stabbed the victim in his side, later admitting that she also hit the victim with a metal pipe.
BRPD contacted a witness who says they knew the victim was hit with a pipe, but was unaware of the stabbing.
Canada's bond has not yet been set.
