BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The budget crisis facing Louisiana could mean deep cuts to the Southern University System.
Officials said they have been notified of a $7.8 million potential reduction in funding from the state. They added the proposed reduction of $4.6 million to the Baton Rouge campus would have a "dramatic and disastrous impact."
They referred to reducing hundreds of non-tenured faculty and staff in a revised draft of a worst-case scenario as impacting student-related services, campus safety and business operations.
They added eliminating 125 adjunct and clinical instructors will result in about 200 courses being canceled.
Officials also plan to cancel summer school and require a 19-day furlough for all nontenured faculty and staff paid more than $30,000.
Under the plan, no campuses in the system would close.
