ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Stolen property from a house in Ascension Parish has the entire neighborhood asking about better security. Deputies say the subdivision is in a good area, but Sunday night, someone was up to no good.

"Not exactly the happy Monday we were expecting," said Tracy Myers.

Myers said her husband told her Monday morning he was taking her car to work. There was nothing unusual about that, but once he got outside, he found his truck sitting on blocks.

"All four tires were gone," she said.

The tires and rims from their fairly new GMC Tahoe were gone. Instead the truck was sitting on landscaping blocks from their own yard. The lug nuts were still scattered around.

"We work hard for what we pay for and what we buy for our families. For somebody to just come in and swipe it from underneath you, is not right."

The incident has become a talker on the Jefferson Crossing Subdivision Facebook page. At 6:30 a.m., Myers posted a picture of their truck there this morning, with the caption "Be Aware." The post has several comments. Mainly people asking about more neighborhood security or possibly hiring an off-duty officer to patrol.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said they do pass through the neighborhood at various times during the night. A spokesman said the area in Prairieville is a good one.

Still other neighbors are asking about whether it is time to block one of the entrances to the neighborhood, saying people from other subdivisions use it as a cut through.

Myers said she believes that is where the problem is.

"We are on a very busy four way corner. Lots of traffic from other neighborhoods. That's probably the issue at hand. This is a very easily accessible area."

While she is doubtful that she will ever see the tires to her truck again, she said there's another investment she will be making soon, besides buying more tires.

"I will be looking into better home security, that'll include cameras, and I'm pretty sure most people in the neighborhood will be doing the same."
