Apartment fire causes crews to shut down Government St.

Parts of Government Street shut down due to apartment fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm apartment fire Saturday morning.

The fire started just after 4:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Community College Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found one of the units engulfed in flames. It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

BRFD spokesman Curt Monte says that although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, they believe that the fire may have started in the kitchen area of one of the apartments.

The unit where the fire began is considered a total loss. Three other units were also damaged during the fire.

Four people have been displaced by the fire. Red Cross was called to give assistance to the displaced residents.

The fire caused crews to shut down Government Street at Community College Dr. for a short time but the street has since been re-opened.
