Police searching for vehicle involved in fatal bicycle crash

LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

Lafayette Police are searching for a red, four-door vehicle that was involved in a fatal crash that killed a man on a bicycle Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of SE Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette.

Witnesses say the bicyclist was trying to cross over the two travel lanes of SE Evangeline Thwy. when he was struck by the red vehicle.

The vehicle did not stop and the victim was then struck by two more vehicles. The drivers for the second and third vehicles stopped at the crash scene.

The bicyclist, now identified as 52-year-old Marklend Theriot, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic investigators are encouraging anyone with information on the identity of the driver of the red car to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.
