GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) -

Officials with the Louisiana State Police say the ammonia leak at the PCS Nitrogen plant in Geismar has been contained and the roads have reopened.

Parts of LA 3115 between LA 30 and LA 75 (Saint Gabriel) was closed as a precaution near the plant in Ascension Parish Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 4 a.m., the Louisiana State Police Emergency Services/Hazmat Unit responded to the PCS Nitrogen Facility for an Ammonia release. At the time, elevated levels of Ammonia were detected near LA 3115 and prompted it's closing. The roads were closed as a precautionary measure.

Laurie Doiron with the Iberville Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness reported the levels detected during the readings were not harmful to the public.
