GREENWOOD, MS - Southern University women's basketball outscored Mississippi Valley State 61-13 and held the Delta Devilettes to one made field goal in the second half during a lopsided 99-36 road win Monday night in the Leflore County Civic Center.
MVSU Christina Reed's 3-pointer with :34 in the third quarter was the only made field goal Southern allowed in a second half. The Jaguar defense forced 41 turnovers and held a 45-12 edge in points off turnovers.
Five Jaguars scored in double figures as all 14 players logged minutes for the third consecutive game. Britney Washington led SU with 13 points and Sarai Blissett added a career high 12 points off the bench. Jadea Brundidge, Miaya Crowder and Cortnei Purnell had 10 points each.
Kahdejah Stevens had 14 points for MVSU joining Reed's 12 point as the only players to score in doble figures. Southern also overpowered MVSU 63-4 in bench points.
The Jaguars return to Baton Rouge with its current 5-game win streak intact as they open a 3-game homestand Saturday, Jan. 23 against Alabama State, who defeated SU 73-55 to claim the 2015 SWAC Tournament championship.
