BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Several Girl Scouts in Baton Rouge were busy on this year's MLK Day of Service.

They were at the Audubon Council Office Monday doing something pretty unique to recycle plastic grocery bags..

"We're going to take plastic bags that people have used, and then we're going to flatten them and make them into strips and then crochet them," said Allysa Wadenecht.

It was not just one troop but several girls from all over the council's multi-parish area. The finished product is a sleeping mat that a homeless person can roll up and carry.

Wadenecht said that her troop's girls are going for an award that demands 20 hours of community service.
