PINE GROVE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.
Louisiana State Police reported Cullen Hayes, 23, of Greensburg, died in the wreck.
Tpr. Dustin Dwight with LSP said the crash happened on LA 63 near LA 16 in Pine Grove around 7:30 a.m.
Investigators said Hayes was headed south on LA 63 in a 2012 Toyota Corolla and the car went off the road when it was approaching the intersection with LA 16. They added they have not yet determined what caused the car to veer off the road.
According to Dwight, after leaving the roadway, Hayes overcorrected, causing the car to spin and cross both lanes of the highway. Dwight said the car then went off the other side of the road, hit a ditch and flipped as it slammed into a tree.
Officials said Hayes was wearing his seatbelt, but still suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner's Office.
As with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of blood was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
