BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The trial has started for a man arrested in connection with a deadly shooting more than four years ago.
Corderrius Mitchell, 24, of Baton Rouge, is charged with principal to first-degree murder, aggravated flight from an officer and reckless operation in the shooting death of Fausto Ortiz-Herrera, 26, also of Baton Rouge.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Ortiz-Herrera was shot and killed on Tracy Avenue on Dec. 16, 2011. Deputies said it happened during a possible robbery.
Reshaud Johnson, 32, is also charged with principal to first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting. Detectives said DNA linked him to the shooting. He has not yet gone to trial.
Witnesses said three men may have tried to rob Herrera and shot him when he tried to run away.
