BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a murder committed in 2012. Covonta Magee, who was 19 at the time of the shooting in 2012, was found guilty of shooting 21-year-old Clara Seal of Denham Springs.
Police say Seal was trying to buy drugs in the 1500 block of Cristy Dr. on Dec. 22, 2012 when she got into a vehicle with Magee and a woman named Chelsea Daigle. Reports state Daigle and Seal were acquaintances. The shooting happened while all three were sitting in the vehicle in a parking lot.
Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department say Chelsea Daigle was involved in the shooting and was also charged with second degree murder, but after numerous continuances and a plea deal, the murder charge was dropped and she pleaded guilty to armed robbery.
In June 2015, Daigle was sentenced to 20 years in prison without the possibility of probation or parole. She was given credit for time served. As part of her plea deal, she testified against Magee during his trial.
Both Magee and Daigle have been in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison since their arrest in 2012.
