BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It's never too soon to start talking about next year. There are a few college football predictions for 2016 out a day after the national championship game and LSU is ranked in the top 10 of each poll.
Athlon Sports ranks the Tigers No. 9 and writer Steven Lassan said that while LSU is extremely talented, "the Tigers won't push Alabama in the SEC West if quarterback Brandon Harris doesn't take the next step in his development."
Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Florida State round out Athlon's top five.
ESPN's 2016 Way-Too-Early Top 25 ranks LSU No. 7.
"After surviving an attempted coup, Tigers coach Les Miles probably knows his team is going to have to challenge Alabama in the SEC West if he's going to keep his job," said senior writer Mark Schlabach.
Clemson, Alabama, Baylor, Michigan and Oklahoma sit atop that ESPN poll.
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his "EARLY EARLY EARLY top 5 for '16" on Tuesday and he is once again expecting big things from LSU. Herbstreit ranks LSU No. 3 behind Clemson and Alabama. Stanford and Ole Miss round out the top five.
Yes, that is three SEC West teams in the top five!
LSU will travel to Lambeau Field to open the season against the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 3.
