BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened Monday around 9:30 a.m. at Chase Bank located at 3012 Government St.

According to police, the suspect went into the bank and approached a teller window with a note demanding money. As the man was handed an undisclosed amount of money, he dropped a suspicious item into the teller window and left the bank on foot.

Baton Rouge Police Explosives unit arrived on scene and "rendered the non-explosive device safe."

The suspect is identified as a black male, 40 - 45 years old, around 6-feet tall. He was last seen wearing a green flannel shirt, green pants, brown boots with a green beanie cap.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.

Nearby schools, including Baton Rouge Magnet High, St. Joseph's Academy, Catholic High and Louisiana Key Academy were placed on lock down. The lock downs were lifted at 12:30 p.m.

Police officials said the lock downs were related to the search for the bank robber.
