BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers have delayed the possible opening of the Morganza Spillway again.
Officials are now saying that if the spillway were to open, it would be opened no earlier than Thursday, January 14.
The constant change in the Morganza Spillway timeline is due to the changes in river forecasts.
This is the third time the Army Corps has delayed the spillway's opening. On Wednesday, the plan was to open the spillway on Monday, January 11. On Thursday the scheduled day was pushed back to Wednesday, January 13.
In order to open the Morganza Spillway, water must reach a height of 57 feet and a flow of 1.5 million cubic feet per second.
The Bonnet Carre Spillway was opened Sunday morning to begin relieving the Mississippi River. The opening of that spillway could effect if and when the Morganza Spillway will be opened.
