BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Thousands of volunteers will gather in Baton Rouge on Martin Luther King Day to help spruce up parts of the city.

One volunteer says there’s a sense of collaboration in doing something that’s "bigger than yourself." Volunteers will go around cleaning blighted areas.

The Walls Project is having selected artists paint murals on the BR Community Radio 96.9 WHYR, Christian Outreach Center, Big Buddy Program and #10WordStoriesBR buildings on Main Street, and the Mid City Redevelopment Alliance building on N. 19th street.

Over 50 organizations have committed to help with this massive day of service. Each organization is providing anywhere from 50 to 250 volunteers.

Volunteers include local businesses, artists, and non-profits, uniting to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
