Kenny Matassa sworn in as new Ascension Parish president

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A new parish president for Ascension Parish was sworn in Monday.

Kenny Matassa was sworn in at the parish courthouse in Donaldsonville.

He is a former Gonzales city councilman who served for 18 years. He won the runoff against Clint Cointment by just over 100 votes.

Matassa will be taking over for Tommy Martinez.

"It's been a long road from my childhood in Donaldsonville to reach such an important leadership role. I'm ready for the challenge and ready to get started," Matassa stated during the ceremony.

His goals are to move traffic, work on drainage and bring more industry jobs to Ascension Parish.

New members of the parish council were also sworn in:

Oliver Joseph - Councilman, District One

William "Bill" Dawson - Councilman, District Two

Travis Turner - Councilman, District Three

Daniel "Doc" Satterlee - Councilman, District Four

Dempsey Lambert - Councilman, District Five

Randy Clouatre Sr. - Councilman, District Six

Aaron Lawler - Councilman, District Seven

Teri Casso - Councilwoman, District Eight

Todd Lambert - Councilman, District Nine

John Cagnolatti - Councilman, District Ten

Benny Johnson - Councilman District Eleven
