BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man is facing multiple felony charges after East Baton Rouge deputies say he was involved in three separate violent crimes on New Year's Day.
23-year-old Norberto Gonzales was charged with domestic abuse at about 1:16 on Friday morning when police say he allegedly became violent towards a victim after drinking alcohol. The victim told police that Gonzales started destroying their home and threatened the victim with a broken bottle after he was told that he could not drive after drinking.
At about 3:45 in the afternoon, deputies returned to the suspect's apartment on Jade Avenue and say they found the suspect allegedly attempting to set his apartment on fire.
During the course of the investigation, deputies say Gonzales was linked to a third incident at about 10 in the morning where he allegedly bit off part of another man's ear during a drunken altercation at Gonzales' apartment. Police were able to find the missing ear portion on the residence's kitchen floor. When interviewed, the suspect claimed that he kept the ear piece as a trophy in case the victim returned to the residence.
A witness says that the victim and suspect were arguing over beer money when Gonzales allegedly attacked the victim.
Gonzales was arrested and brought to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of 2nd degree battery, attempted arson, and domestic abuse.
His bond was set at $75,000.
