New state laws to go into effect January 1

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - 19 new or revised laws take effect January 1, 2016, many aiming at bringing transparency and regulations to government officials
and agencies.

Senate Bill 190 will help bring information to the public, allowing more records from the Governor's office to be made public record. That law takes effect January 11, coinciding with when Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards takes the Oath of Office.

House Bill 836 hopes to limit the number of illegal immigr ants marrying in Louisiana by bringing stricter requirements for people applying for marriage licenses. Starting January 1, those licenses will only be allowed to people who can show a valid birth certificate, international ID or passport.

Senate Bill 98 tightens regulations within the state's film tax credit program, specifically focusing on the auditing and verification process of who and what are being allowed to remain tax exempt.
