BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The 27th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration was a full house Monday night.
Young and old gathered Monday night at the Southern University Cotillion Ballroom to celebrate their African American heritage. The event was hosted by the Africentric Focus/Maat Study group of Baton Rouge.
The themes of unity and problem solving, helping each other, they remembered some who had been killed and could not be at the gathering.
As names were called out, they said Ashe' which in Nigeria means energy, power or light.
Kwanzaa lasts from the day after Christmas through New Year's Day.
