Shooting suspect in custody after standoff in Ashton

ST. MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say a standoff in Ashton has ended and they now have the suspect in custody.

Just after the 6 a.m., deputies say they received a call about a possible shooting at a home on Dumesnail Road.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found an injured male. He was transported to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

According to deputies, while securing the scene they were fired upon. All of the deputies immediately took cover.

The department's Special Response Team was dispatched. They also received assistance from Louisiana State Police, Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office and the Vermillion Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say upon their arrival, the deputies were shot at.

One deputy was injured in the shooting and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The suspect was later taken into custody by LSP SWAT.

The suspect was injured in the incident. He has taken to a nearby hospital where his injuries and condition is unknown.
