BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - People packed the Mall of Louisiana, taking advantage of post-Christmas sales and spending gift cards they received as presents.

Big signs filled seemingly every storefront, trumpeting the deals. Some retailers offered more than 50 percent off on merchandise.

"I just got a Michael Kors purse at Dillard's. They had a huge sale. Forty percent off in there," said Hailey Fisher.

Some were overwhelmed by the large crowds.

"I work in retail. I knew what I was getting into when I came out here, but it's kind of worth it cause I'm not working so we can come out here and relax," said Kara Morrison, who was shopping with her younger sister.

"You've got to have your mind right," said Lakesa Bradford. "Either you're going to take your time and walk through or you're going to come in and get out. But the sales are great."

Bradford was one of many individuals returning unwanted Christmas gifts.

"My son ended up getting two of the same video game, so I thought I could get some money back," she said.

No large crowd could keep Myrna Escalante away, who has turned post-Christmas Day shopping into a tradition. She made a day out of her trip to the mall, bring her granddaughter and husband along with her.

"He's a good man. He loves to pay and follow us," she laughed.

And with the countdown already underway for next Christmas, some saw today's deals as an opportunity 364 days in advance.

"If you are a wise shopper, planning for next year, today would be a great day to knock those Christmas gifts out," Bradford said.

The Mall of Louisiana has extended holiday hours for the next week, allowing shoppers extra time to take advantage of deals.
