SPRINGFIELD, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Troopers are investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist in Springfield on Christmas Day.
Troopers say the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on LA 42 west of LA 43.
According to State Police, an initial investigation revealed that 21-year-old Justin Murray of Hammond was riding his bicycle westbound on LA 42. At the same time, 63-year-old Keith Jones of Livingston was also traveling westbound on LA 42. For unknown reasons, Murray moved across the westbound lane into the path of Jones' truck and was struck.
Murray, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Jones was not injured in the crash.
Although impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, a routine toxicology test will be taken from Murray and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Jones submitted to a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment.
The crash remains under investigation.
