BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Some extra special children got a surprise visit from the jolly old man in a bright red suit Wednesday.

Santa Claus made his grand entrance at the American Legion Hall Wednesday morning for a special visit with children's hospital patients and their families.

They got to sing Christmas carols, open presents, and were treated to a North Pole candy station.

The 7th annual event gave parents and doctors a chance to celebrate in a fun and less intimidating environment.

"It's a great feeling to see these kids get something special out of life and it's a fun event, a Christmastime important event," said Dr. Keith Perrin, Executive Director with Children's Pediatrics.

The event was made possible thanks to the Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana State Troopers and Kean Miller Law Firm.

More than 100 patients participated in the holiday event.
