BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Baton Rouge River Center is holding the 25th annual Ice Skating on the River event, allowing guests to take to the rink for a skating session despite the balmy outdoor temperatures.

The main arena has been turned into a winter wonderland with skating, Christmas music, and concessions.

"I studied abroad last year and got to skate on an outside rink. I did that seven times  before Christmas and so now I’m like I have to do it, I have to be part of it, because it’s obviously not cold here but it’s nice and cold in here," said skater Sarah Simmons.

Last year, more than 12,000 people took to the ice as part of the winter event. That is a record they hope to beat this year.

"It’s very fun, very entertaining. A great family environment, it’s very nice," said skater Matt Abshire.

The River Center holds several skating sessions each day. A 75 minute skating session costs $12. That price includes a skate rental and a drink.

They have skating every day except for Christmas and New Year’s Day. The event ends on January 3.
