Popular holiday gifts selling out in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The season's hottest gift items may not be back in Baton Rouge until sometime after Christmas.

The popular Pie Face game, which went viral after being featured on various social media platforms, has been hard to keep on the shelves. Some of the locally owned stores like Giggles, say they will have the game in 2016 but right now it's on back order.

At Victoria's Toy Station, on Government Street in Baton Rouge, the owner says they are seeing more traditional Christmas gifts be purchased.

"Back to the basics," said Katie Shoriak. "Dolls have been huge for little girls. Art supplies and Star Wars have also been huge."

Outdoor activities and equipment have spiked as well. Things like ziplines and scooters.

There's another hot ticket item that many adults are after. At The Backpacker, on Jefferson Highway, the owner there says the Yeti Tumbler is the most popular gift this year.

"We've had to limit it to one or two per person," said Michael Mathews.

The cup is vacuum insulated and keeps drinks hot or cold for hours.

On Thursday, the store had a line of 80 people all trying to get one of the 25 cups they recieved in their shipment. Saturday, Mathews says, they ran out of the cups around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, the 25 they got in store ran out immediately.

"Everytime we've gotten a shipment, the line's been out the door," said Andew Pate, who works at the store.

On his day off, he was one of the people in line. He bought the last tumbler in the store when asked his plans for the item, he said "I want to give it to my Dad, so I hope he likes it."

Mathews says they get hundreds of calls every day. So now they send out an email blast to alert shoppers of when they get a shipment.
