BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A day after a popular recreational getaway was closed because of vandalism some dedicated citizens got together in pouring rain to clean it up.
Officials with BREC said graffiti at the Extreme Sports Park on Perkins Road was removed Monday evening by some of its regular patrons.
"We believe that this park is truly a gem in East Baton Rouge Parish and our visitors take pride and ownership of the park ensuring that it stays clean and inviting to all that visit," Chad Brewer, assistant director of communications with BREC, said in a written release.
The park remained closed Tuesday, but it was due to weather.
Skaters who showed up at the park Monday were welcomed with bright yellow tape. Pat Fellows and Sam Stroope said it is a big bummer for their children who are eager to skate during Christmas break.
BREC officials closed the park after someone spray painted the word "chap" on the sidewall of what is referred to as the skate pool. Special Facilities Manager Jason Hoggatt said it happened on Sunday afternoon when the park was packed with people.
BREC officials said they plan to take legal action against the vandal.
