Deputies arrest wanted fugitive accused of assaulting woman

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man wanted for allegedly assaulting a woman was taken into custody Monday night.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported William Simoneaux, 37, of Prairieville, was arrested in East Baton Rouge Parish. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the warrants out of Ascension Parish and will be sent back there at a later date.

Simoneaux faces charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to APSO, deputies were sent to a home on Rue Royale Avenue in Prairieville on December 14 regarding a disturbance. When deputies arrived, they reported finding a woman who told them that a physical altercation had occurred between her and Simoneaux.

The victim stated that Simoneaux hit her numerous times and made death threats before leaving. Deputies did not find him that day, but were later told by Simoneaux that he would turn himself in. He failed to do so.

Deputies learned during the investigation that Simoneaux is a convicted felon and had been arrested before on domestic violence charges. According to APSO, he has been arrested eight times on simple battery, second-degree battery, armed robbery and drug charges.
