BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two Louisiana non-profits both got early Christmas gifts Thursday thanks to the Walmart Foundation.
The Salvation Army and Up Alliance of Greater Baton Rouge were awarded a Walmart Foundation Louisiana State Giving. The groups were given a total of $75,000 in grants as part of the company's "Day of Giving" in Louisiana. The check was presented at the Walmart on College Drive.
For Salvation Army, it couldn't have come at a better time.
"We're using it to renovate current facilities dining room and kitchen," said Captain Mary Meredith with Salvation Army.
Meredith said the Salvation Army served more than 130,000 meals from its kitchen last year.
Up Alliance works to promote adult literacy.
