LSU’s William Clapp earned national recognition on Wednesday as the offensive guard earned a spot on the Sporting News Freshman All-America Team, the publication announced.

Clapp, a redshirt freshman from New Orleans, played a key role in LSU leading the Southeastern Conference in rushing with an average of 245.9 yards per game.

Clapp, who is the son of former LSU defensive standout Tommy Clapp, helped pave the way for the nation’s leading rusher Leonard Fournette, who set the school record with 1,741 yards during the regular season. Fournette currently ranks No. 1 in the nation with 158.3 rushing yards per game heading into the Texas Bowl against Texas Tech.

Clapp opened the season at left guard against Mississippi State and then shifted to right guard the following week against Auburn, which is where he played the final 10 games of the season. In 11 games, Clapp played 725 offensive snaps and ranked third among offensive linemen with 81.5 knockdowns.

Last week, Clapp was one of three Tigers named to the Freshman All-SEC team as selected by the league’s coaches joining running back Derrius Guice and defensive end Arden Key.
