PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead Tuesday morning.
State Police say the crash happened just before 5 a.m. on LA 405 south of LA 75 in Iberville Parish.
According to State Police, an initial investigation revealed that the victim, 25-year-old Jermaine Taylor, was walking southbound in the northbound lane of LA 405 wearing all black.
At the same time, a 2009 Ford F-150 driven by 28-year-old Kane Ourso was traveling in southbound on LA 405.
State Police say that Ourso moved into the northbound lane to pass a slow moving vehicle. As he was passing the vehicle, he struck Taylor in the northbound lane.
Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner's Office.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash but a routine toxicology test was taken from Taylor and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Ourso submitted to a chemical breath test for intoxication. There were no detectable signs of alcohol.
